Wessam Alessa (1975) heeft als journalist een lange staat van dienst. Tussen 2005 en 2015 werkte hij als freelance journalist voor verschillende Engelstalige omroepen, zoals o.a. BBC Radio. Daarvoor werkte hij als correspondent China voor Central Television en was hij hoofdcorrespondent voor Press TV. In het bijzonder heeft Wessam verslag gedaan vanuit de frontlinies tijdens de oorlog tegen IS in de Iraakse provincies: Anbar, Kirkuk, Mosul en Salah Al Dine.
